As many UKSALA members will know, the Coalition Government in the UK is conducting a “balance of competences” review over the entire field of EU law: the purpose of the review is to analyse in depth how the EU’s competences work in practice.
This review has now reached the area of competition policy, including State aid: see the review programme available at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/review-of-uk-and-eu-balance-of-competences-call-for-evidence-on-competition-and-consumer-policy: pages 11 to 13 of the review document contain a short summary of the present position in relation to State aid.
BIS is calling for evidence on the present balance of competences to be submitted by 13 January 2014 to [email protected].
UKSALA will be responding to this call for evidence: a number of members of the steering committee have been invited to attend a meeting with BIS on 12 November. But any member with thoughts on the current balance of competences should either comment on this blog or e-mail [email protected].
