State Aid Options After Brexit

February 7, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

All UKSALA members are invited to a seminar organised with the Compass Lexecon to explore options for State Aid post-Brexit, hosted by Compass Lexecon and FTI Consulting. Kelyn Bacon QC and George Peretz QC from UKSALA will present and discuss the recent paper “Post Brexit Options for State Aid”.

Little attention has been paid to State Aid so far in discussions on the competition regime post-Brexit. Yet the options in this area are much more open than in merger or enforcement work. If the UK leaves the EEA, it could need to make commitments on State Aid in a trade agreement with the EU. Even after Brexit, the UK would remain bound by WTO constraints to an extent. The UK could establish its own rules, for example governing subsidies granted by local or regional governments. The choice of subsidies allowed and those which are not will have profound implications for any organisations involved in business with Government in the UK, as well as those carrying out services that might have broad social, environmental and economic benefits.   Join us to discuss the legal and economic implications of these options in an interactive session with guest speakers including:

  • Kelyn Bacon QC, UK State Aid Law Association
  • George Peretz QC, UK State Aid Law Association
  • Sir Philip Lowe, FTI Consulting and former Director-General for Competition and Energy
  • And John Davies, Compass Lexecon as Chair

Register here to book.  Please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. We do hope you will join us.
